The Stegosaurus is a species of dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic period and is well known for its plates on its back and two rows of spikes on its tail. Although they're extinct, they are one of various animals an animagus can turn into, as well as being a form of the Patronus Charm.

The name Stegosaurus means "roof lizard": "stegos" means roof in Greek and "saurus" means lizard in Greek.
