Janus Kell was a Lothalian Jedi Master who lived sometime between the Jedi Civil War and the Great Galactic War. At some point, his ship suffered a hyperdrive malfunction which led him to become stranded in the Exegol system. Surprised and shocked about the existence of a Sith Empire hidden in the fringes of the galaxy, Janus attempted to infiltrate the Sith society to learn more about the hidden empire and its origins. Eventually he met the Sith Lord Aluria, with whom he fell in love.
During the Felkor Crisis, Janus assisted the Sith forces in ending the threat of rogue Sith Lord Felkor. This brought him to the attention of the emperor, who summoned Kell and offered him a choice: to renounce the Jedi Order and the Republic and become an Imperial Knight, allowing him to remain with his Sith lover, or be executed as a Republic spy. Despite his reluctance in abandoning the Jedi, Kell relented and accepted the emperor's offer.
