Draugr (Also spelled and refered as Draug) are a type of Undead found primarily in Iceland, Norway, Greenland, parts of nothern Sweden and on forgotten archipelago islands of Denmark. They are foul humanoid undead beings who blend elements of both physical undead and ghostly beings.

Appearance[]

A Draugr looks similar like the average undead corpse looking creature (such as a Zombie, inferi etc) with a couple differences here and there such as pale rotten flesh and skin and bony appearance. Worth mentioning Draugr usually wear ancient norse armor and wields ancient weapons of norse vikings and barbarians.

Abilities & Traits[]

Draugr prey upon those who foolishly walks into or disturbs the peace their tombs or strongholds in hope of finding their treasure and eat the flesh and blood of the living.

Draugr usually have a lot of treasure (usually treasure from the Viking Age and sometimes from earlier) and are greedy and love gold, silver, bronze and in rare cases precious gems.

Wherever Draugr go they spread disease, plague and bad omens among the living. Despite looking skinny and bony corpses Draugr are actually very strong and have a decent weapon skills.

While indeed being physical undead like the likes of Inferi and Zombies, Draugr have shown to have the abilities of ghosts like passing through walls and floor making them more seem like renevants, wights or wraiths.

Some Draugr also have supernatural abilities like curses, controlling the weather, elemental powers, command simple minded animals ,powers of a seer, summoning creatures from "neatherworld" or Barrow Wights and so on.

In rare cases very powerful Draugr can transform hollow bodies of victims killed by them into "lesser draugrs".

History[]

In ancient Norse pantheon, religion and culture it was believed that Draugr are whats left of people who were mean, nasty, greedy and dishonorable or people who were cursed somehow and were cursed for it. However during the post-pagan times of scandinavia this old narrative started to be questioned and dismissed by later generations of wizards both of scandinavia and outside scandinavia as newer ideas & theories on how Draugr are came to be such as being ancient norse wizards who experimented with attempts to become immortal liches but ended up becoming a new undead species of creatures.

In year four in Hogwarts and in some later years Draugr are talked about during Defence Against the Dark Arts class among other undead creatures around the world.

Defence Against the Dark Arts[]

In year four (and in year six) in Hogwarts Draugrs are usually talked about.

Draugrs are rated XXXX by the Ministry of Magic. Initially they were supposed to be XXXXX rather than XXXX but due to the fact that it is possible (but hard) to negotiate with Draugrs the common consensus internationally became XXXX
